Elementary
Kindergarten
This program has great flexibility because we realize not all students develop at the same rate. We believe children should be challenged and not overwhelmed in school. Some students are ready for five full days a week, some three full days a week, and some need just half days. We offer a flexible schedule at this grade. Some children are ready to learn at four years of age and will be considered for the Kindergarten program
Students learn basic phonics, vocabulary, spelling, cursive, Spanish, math concepts, history, science, and music. Teaching methods include large group, small group, and individual instruction. Students love to memorize and recite at this age so there is a lot of oral presentation. For most students the love of learning starts at this level.
Elementary
The elementary years are where the building blocks for all other learning are laid. The child is ready to absorb information and actually finds memorization fun. Students learn rules of phonics and spelling, rules of grammar, poems, and the vocabulary of Spanish, the stories of history and literature, descriptions of plants and animals and the human body, and the facts of mathematics.
At this stage students are gaining knowledge rapidly through reading, memorizing, and through oral presentations. Teaching methods include regular opportunities to read aloud, comprehension activities and projects, large group and small group instruction, and field trips. Art and drama are also used to enhance all subjects. Latin instruction starts at 3rd grade and continues through the elementary grades.
