Since yesterday had so many glorious moments, I just couldn't fit in one more, so MT has become Message Wednesday. Last evening the elementary students presented a beautiful program, drawing a standing ovation with their performance of Handel's Hallelujah Chorus. Super-sized thanks to the elementary teachers and parent/music teacher Valerie Grissom for their work in preparing the students.
I have one idea I would like to run by you for consideration over break.
BAND - We have an opportunity to start a school band! Wouldn't that be a spectacular addition to next year's Christmas Concert? Specifically, the opportunity is for students (and their parents) in grades five and above. A retired gentleman, who has many years of experience teaching band in both public and Christian school settings would like to teach an after school band class next semester (likely three days a week).
Mr. Barker will be teaching an exlploratory hands-on Electives Week class for any students who might be interested in joining the band, or even for students who may just want to learn more about band instruments, but don't have the time to commit to a band rehearsals. I have had several conversations with him, and feel that he would be a good fit for ICA.
We have even talked about allowing interested parents to join the band and learn an intrument with their child, or dust off an instrument they played in younger years and join in the fun (I may even break out my flute!) I thought I would give you a little advance information with the thought that you could diccuss it over the holiday break. Please let me know if you think your family may be interested. There is no fee for this class, but you will need to provide and instrument. Mr. Barker can help you obtain an instrument through rental or purchase.
Christmas Eve Service
If you don't have a church you regularly attend that hosts a Christmas Eve service, you are welcome to join the SWAG church family at 6:00 pm on Christmas Eve in the gym. If you have a student in the elementary grades, they are welcome to participate in the bell choir that night by arriving at 5:30 pm and meeting Mrs. Chittim in the lunchroom for a short rehearsal.
Remember Friday is a half day of school with early release at 12:15 and no bus service. After that have a fantastic Christmas, and we will see you all back here January 4th!
