Today's biggest news it the Auction Meeting tonight at 7:00-8:00 pm in the lunchroom here at ICA. It gives you an opportunity to pick up your packet, meet some of the auction veterans, and formulate your family's plan and timeline for auction. This is also the first opportunity to sign "the book" and be sure to get first pick of businesses you want to visit. With auction just eight weeks and four days away, it's time to ramp up the procurement engine! See you tonight at 7:00 pm! The attached MT has many more important announcements, so be sure to make the extra click! The calendar items can also be found on the Gradelink or ICA websites. Other news: Fall Leadership Retreat: Secondary students are looking forward to a "high" adventure as they participate in our fall Leadership Retreat. Pastor Jim Schultz of Hillside Evangelical Free Church in Greenbank will be leading several team and character building activities surrounding the theme of climbing. Thanks to Pastor Jim, Island Church of Whidbey for letting us use their climbing wall and equipment, and the O'Keefe family for letting us camp out on their property for the night. Poetry: This year many classes are learning poetry! Some of our older students are working on dramatic presentation of a poem for un upcoming Poetry Out Loud Competition. Part of their assignment is to practice their poem in front of difference people each night. Today was teacher day, so I've heard a number of them. They have chosen some poignant poems, and I thought I would share one of them with you: It Couldn’t Be Done BY EDGAR ALBERT GUEST Somebody said that it couldn’t be done But he with a chuckle replied That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried. So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin On his face. If he worried he hid it. He started to sing as he tackled the thing That couldn’t be done, and he did it! Somebody scoffed: “Oh, you’ll never do that; At least no one ever has done it;” But he took off his coat and he took off his hat And the first thing we knew he’d begun it. With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin, Without any doubting or quiddit, He started to sing as he tackled the thing That couldn’t be done, and he did it. There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done, There are thousands to prophesy failure, There are thousands to point out to you one by one, The dangers that wait to assail you. But just buckle in with a bit of a grin, Just take off your coat and go to it; Just start in to sing as you tackle the thing That “cannot be done,” and you’ll do it. An attitude I hope ALL ICA students develop! Have a blessed week! Brenda
